European Locomotive Leasing (ELL) has concluded a financing round of € 250 million in the form of a 7-year senior secured CAPEX revolving credit facility. The financing will support the further growth of ELL’s fleet, which will grow to over 300 Siemens Vectron locomotives.

ELL will thus further secure its leading market position as owner of the largest Vectron fleet. 12 banks are now involved in the financing of ELL. With this round, two more were added to the existing banking club. ELL was founded in 2014 with offices in Vienna and Munich and has developed into a major provider of leasing and services for electric locomotives throughout continental Europe. The company’s portfolio includes the largest Vectron fleet in Europe, which is used for both freight and passenger train operators. ELL’s locomotives are fully electrified and thus make an important contribution to the decarbonization and electrification of the rail sector. The Vectron locomotives are known for their flexibility and are suitable for operation in various European countries and railroad systems.

ELL CEO Christian Kern:

“The issue was oversubscribed four times, although only a limited number of banks were invited to participate. This confirms investors’ confidence in ELL’s robust business model. We have succeeded in delivering an outstanding performance in a challenging environment!”

Podcast: Why does freight traffic roll by road and not by rail?

In the latest episode of the ÖAMTC podcast “What moves us”, presenter Marcel Kilic and our CEO Christian Kern discuss the challenges and developments in freight transport. They shed light on the reasons for the decline in rail freight transport in Europe, including high energy prices and a lack of investment in infrastructure. A meeting between Christian Kern (CEO European Locomotive Leasing Group) and Wilhelm Moser (CEO DPB Group) took place today in the outdoor area of the workshop in Gramatneusiedl. During this meeting, the fully wrapped new locomotive was handed over to DPB.

The meeting in front of the finished locomotive symbolizes our ongoing cooperation and joint commitment to European rail transport.

Bahnoperator Polska received another Siemens Vectron locomotive, leased from ELL. This powerful electric locomotive operates seamlessly in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Austria and Italy. 🇵🇱 🇩🇪 🇨🇿 🇸🇰 🇭🇺 🇷🇴 🇦🇹 🇮🇹

The newcomer was presented at Intermodal 2024 in Poland, runs on the Małaszewicze-Melzo route up to three times a week and shortens the journey time to under 60 hours!

The design of the locomotive honours Marco Polo and symbolizes the modern Silk Road. The “Marco Polo Express” connects continents and is reminiscent of historic trade routes.

We are grateful for being a partner at the Congress Intermodal in Poland, the largest event in the intermodal transport industry. 🇵🇱

We would like to announce that another exceptional locomotive has joined the fleet of our customer Bahnoperator. The Marco Polo Express, named after the historic Silk Road linking China with Europe, is a significant addition. This locomotive, named Magda in honor of Magdalena Stefaniuk, CEO of Bahnoperator Polska, will enable our client to develop intermodal transport from China to Italy, shifting road freight to rail and reducing CO2 emissions.

ELL supports this initiative and is rooting for Bahnoperator in the further development of intermodal transport!✅
